The next day, Alex discovers the thieves while spying on his neighbors. After two failed attempts to have them apprehended, Alex attaches a camera to the remote control car and uses it to spy on them, leading to the thieves chasing it when they spot it. Wondering what they want with the toy car, Alex opens it and discovers the stolen chip.
The plot centered around a boy named Max, who faces off against a married couple after he allegedly steals something of theirs. Filming was reported to begin in the first quarter of 2020, with casting underway. In November, it was confirmed that the film would be shot in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, taking place from February to April. In December 2019, Archie Yates was cast as the lead, with Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper set to play antagonists. The film's stunts also created tension for the crew during shooting. Troy Brown and Leon Delaney were stuntmen for Pesci and Stern, respectively.

It premiered exclusively on ABC Family's Countdown to the 25 Days of Christmas on November 25, 2012. The story centers on the Baxter family's relocation from California to Maine, where Finn becomes convinced that his new house is haunted.
Cinematographer Julio Macat recalled that Pesci was more difficult to work with than Culkin. The older actor believed some of the dialogue was not of a quality commensurate with his acting ability. He also resented the early unit calls, since they prevented him from starting his day with nine holes of golf as he preferred to do. After Kevin makes a donation, Mr. Duncan gives him a pair of ceramic turtledoves in thanks, instructing him to give one to another person as a gesture of eternal friendship. The concierge at the Plaza confronts Kevin about his use of Peter's credit card, now reported as stolen; Kevin flees the hotel but is caught by the Wet Bandits. Marv mentions his and Harry's plan to rob the store before Kevin escapes in an encounter with a passerby. The next morning, the family oversleeps and must rush to the airport. Kevin is with them, but he becomes separated from them while carrying Peter's bag and accidentally boards a flight to New York City. Upon arrival, he decides to tour the city, but becomes frightened by a homeless woman tending to pigeons in Central Park.
The police arrive and arrest Harry and Marv, having identified all the houses that they broke into due to Marv's destructive habit of flooding them. The first of the "Home Alone" movie series was released for theChristmas season in 1990. Every kid in 1992 was enthused by the Talkboy when they see Kevin with it in the movie. Hughes had dreamed it up for the purposes of the movie and then Tiger Electronics made it for him. They also released it as a tie-in to the movie, and many of those kids clamoring for a Talkboy were able to actually get it.

Kevin tricks and locks Mr. Prescott in the basement, but eventually discovers Marv and Vera's real ally is Molly, who is also Marv's mother. Hughes gave him the scripts for both Home Alone and Reach the Rock; Columbus chose to direct Home Alone, as he found it funnier and liked the Christmas theme. In 2002, a “Deluxe Edition” of the soundtrack was released for the 10-year anniversary. The two-disc release features 100 minutes of Williams’ score and other music cues, including some that weren’t included in the actual movie. In one of the production drafts, there is a scene at the end of the movie where a police officer talks to the Pigeon Lady. They call her “Annie” and invite her to come down to the station for hot chocolate. Eventually, that scene was cut, and thus the real name of the Pigeon Lady remained unknown. As such, for the first they had spent a ton of money on fake snow they could use in New York. Then, before they filmed using any of it, a blizzard hit the city.
Having moved into their house only two months ago, Carol finds friends in the McKenzies and thanks them for taking care of Max. Beaupre, Alice, Jernigan and Unger break in, spring the traps, and suffer various injuries. While the four pursue Alex around the house, he flees and rescues Mrs. Hess, who has been duct taped to a chair in her garage by Alice. Beaupre ambushes Alex, but the latter uses a bubble gun resembling a Glock to scare him off.
The film was released in the United Kingdom on December 11, 1992, and topped the country's box office that weekend. The film is the third-highest-grossing film released in 1992 behind The Bodyguard and Aladdin. In the United States and Canada, it grossed more than The Bodyguard and ranked second. On March 15, 2012, ABC Family announced the development of the fifth installment in the Home Alone series.
